Pet Peeve: The Road to Ready Player One

Image
Oh, guys. Seeing this movie turned out to be an epic effort, apparently. Let me give you guys the run down before I get into it. My friend and I had gone to a dine-in theater a couple of weeks ago. Fine, good, whatever. We decided to actually dine in because, well, we wanted to eat.  Everything was disgusting. I mean everything. Including the fucking beverages! I don’t know what happened. I took a sip of the soft drink and it was warm, kinda flat, and had a weird amount of ice in it. It had like 7 thin ice cubes that I think may have been put in after the soda was already in the cup. I stirred the ice around and my friend was like, “Does your drink seem weird?” I told him yeah and asked how his tasted and he said the same. He figured it had to be something when he saw me stirring mine. The chicken *smelled* disgusting. I tasted it anyway, but as one might guess, that was a mistake. When our waitress/server lady came back she saw that our plates were complete...

Pet Peeve: Death Begets Stories of Death

So, my grandmother died a week or two ago. She died in the middle of the night between Sunday and Monday so I contacted my job to inform that I wouldn’t be in and to inquire about how the company handles bereavement. We are a small department so of course news spread quickly about what happened. My co-workers have been offering their condolences and asking what happened. I mean, she was a million years old. That’s what happened. Death is a natural part of life, right? Actually, though, something in addition to old age was her undoing. She found out that she had cancer and had had it for a while. They thought it started in the breast and then spread all over. Cool. Telling people this makes them shrivel up like a prune anyway. Why are we as humans so interested in the gory details when we know it makes us sad? Not only did she succumb to cancer one month to the day that she found out about it, she was actually my legal guardian growing up. That fact makes everyone, basical...

Love, Simon **spoiler alert**

I really liked this movie. Let's just start there, 'kay? I love the book it is based upon. Even with all the books I'm panicked about not reading before the due date at the library and books I've purchased in a frenzy convinced that I NEEDED that book, I still listen to this book several times a year. That being said, my memory regarding the book's details is a bit better than it would normally be, but I still enjoyed the movie. I just tell people that it is loosely based on the book. I say loosely because the movie, well, the trailer, actually, makes it seem as though Simon is all torn up about being in the closet. I never really got that feeling from the book, but that’s just my interpretation of it. It starts out with Simon hanging out with his friends, Nick, Leah, and, the newest addition, Abby. In the movie Nick is mixed race, but in the book he is white. No biggie, though. So, Simon hangs with friends as he normally does, but Leah is obsessed with...

A Wrinkle in Time no spoilers

Okay. I like a great many movies, but sci-fi is hit or miss. This seemed to be closer to fantasy, probably. I didn't like this one. However, Mindy Kaling looked very pretty and everyone's makeup looked awesome. As my sister told me, "I couldn't even follow the trailer." I didn't see the trailer because, really, do I need more info besides Oprah and Mindy? But, yeah, no. If you liked the book, you may not like the movie because I don't know how closely aligned they are. I do know without any background info I wanted to leave the theater midway, through. I hate to say anything bad about anything, really, especially friggin' Oprah, but I cannot lie. Did you guys see it? What did you think?

Black Panther ***spoiler alert***

I am not a big symbolism type of person. I do not watch my entertainment in an analytical way (for the most part). Except rom-coms which is a whole other story. If that’s what you want, then, please look further. If you’re looking for someone who doesn’t even know the movie names of the characters, then, well, you’ve come to the right place. Gather ‘round. I got a story to re-tell. The Black Panther was everything I wanted it to be. Towards opening night I started to worry that I was hyping it up in my mind too much and that I had nothing but heartbreak in my future. I worried needlessly . Black Panther. In Avengers: Civil War (I think), we are introduced to the Black Panther. He was giving Iron Man a run for his money and I could think is, “Who is this new villain? He is so bad ass!” Turns out he wasn’t a villain. Anyway, in Civil War while in the US for reasons I can’tt remember today, T’Challah, (only name I know for certain because I read it somewh...
